Marrying postcards to poverty is a new project of sometime backpacker, sometime business analyst Cameron Wakefield.
Wakefield, the co-founder of website Backpacker Love, says travellers can donate photos to be used on postcards, with money donated to community projects nominated by the online community.
He says the idea for the non-profit project came to him while travelling in Guatemala.
“Backpackers are so often exposed to communities living in poverty and I started thinking that there has to be a way to help people using digital photography as a channel,” Wakefield says. “People will be able to select an image, write a postcard and send it home.”
The project is a collaborative effort with a graphic designer in England, a web designer in the US and Wakefield in Melbourne, who says he is currently in talks with online postcard distributors.
